Opportunities provided through the legislation and Panteion University for the training and development of the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Programme.

All members of the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Programme have the necessary teaching competences, as guaranteed by the procedures provided by the legislation in force for the development and election of faculty members or the assignment of teaching to recognised scientists, selected according to objective and meritocratic criteria. Particular care is taken to ensure that the number and high quality of the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Programme, their suitability in relation to the subjects taught and the maintenance of the appropriate student-teaching staff ratio are constantly ensured, without any problem ever having arisen to date, as documented, moreover, by the relevant evaluations.

For their professional and scientific development and support, the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Programme utilizes the opportunities provided by law, as well as by the special actions of Panteion University in the context of the implementation of its policy for the continuous upgrading of its staff. Specifically, the opportunities for professional and scientific development and support provided to the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Programme by Panteion University mainly concern:

  • the operation of the Teaching and Learning Support Centre, which has been established in accordance with the current legislation (article 129 of Law 4957/2022) and provides on a regular basis "the provision of support services, strengthening and continuous improvement of teaching and learning processes, in accordance with modern trends in pedagogy, as well as the use of new technologies in teaching for the development of distance education" (see in detail: Panteion University Campus – Panteion University Campus)
  • the granting of various types of permits in accordance with current legislation, for participation in scientific activities in Greece and abroad (conferences, workshops, etc. ) and
  • the participation in European programmes such as ERASMUS Staff Training, ERASMUS+, ERASMUS INTERNATIONAL, ERASMUS (MUNDUS etc.),

which offer the teaching staff the opportunity to travel abroad for research, teaching and training, thus enabling them to keep abreast of developments at international level.

Furthermore, Panteion University has set as a priority the strengthening of the link between education and research and, within the framework of its capabilities, it implements, through the Special Account for Research Funds (ELKE), specific actions such as: funding for the procurement of research equipment, funding for the certification and accreditation of service laboratories, provision of funding by the Research Committee for the organization of scientific workshops and conferences (on an annual basis), organization of events for the publicity and promotion of particular research achievements (on an ongoing basis), etc.

Moreover, the continuous upgrading of the Panteion University infrastructure, with the construction of new or the improvement of existing classrooms and the supply of modern technological equipment, has increased the possibilities of the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Programme to introduce new innovative teaching methods.

Responsiveness of the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Programme

The great majority of the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Programme have been trained in Universities and Research Centres abroad and transfer the know-how they have acquired, while there is a great participation in Greek and international research projects, the results of which are published in international journals of high prestige, with many of these publications having attracted significant scientific interest, as can be seen from the large number of citations they have achieved. In addition, the teaching staff of the Postgraduate Programme demonstrates increased scientific mobility by participating in international conferences by presenting papers or by accepting invitations to teach at universities abroad (visiting professors).

The above actions ensure the extroversion and international presence of the teaching staff of the MA “CRIMINOLOGY”, achieving significant performance in their teaching and research work, enhancing the link between teaching and research and current scientific developments and ultimately contributing to the promotion of their scientific and professional development.
