Chloupis George

George Chloupis is an Attorney at Law at the Supreme Court of Greece (Areios Pagos) and an Assistant Professor of Criminal Law and Criminology at the Law School of the European University of Cyprus. He is the Director of the Master's Program in Criminal Law at the Law School and a Coordinator/Adjunct Tutor in the postgraduate programs at the Hellenic Open University (HOU).

Associate Professor in the field of criminal sciences of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens until August 2024. He was a graduate of the "Varvakeios Model School" of Athens and then a graduate of the Law School of the University of Athens (1980).
He attended a postgraduate course at the Law School of the University of London and then was a postgraduate student at the University of Munich, in a series of courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, criminology and philosophy of law. He was awarded a doctorate in law (Dr. Juris) at the University of Munich with a doctorate in criminal law (magna laude) in February 1989.
He speaks German, English and French.
In June 2006 he was elected Lecturer at the Law School of the University of Athens in the Department of Criminal Sciences, where he taught continuously until August 2024, when he retired to the rank of Associate Professor.
He has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate level in the field of criminal sciences at the Law School of the University of Athens in the following courses: General Criminal Law, Special Criminal Law, Synthesis of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure, Erasmus program, and further Penal Science Theory, Anti-Crime Policy as well as Execution and Execution of a Sentence. In the context of the postgraduate program, he has supervised the elaboration of many postgraduate students' dissertations, while he also participates in three-member committees for the supervision of doctoral dissertations.
He also taught for many years Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure at the Seminars for Trainee and Young Lawyers of the Athens Bar Association, as well as in the framework of the program: "Studies of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure" of the D.S.A. In the past, he taught, for many years, at the School of Officers of the Hellenic Police. He has taught in courses of the Training School of Military Legal Advisors as well as in the cycle of criminal law seminars of the Association of Greek Criminologists.
He has participated, with presentations and interventions, in many scientific conferences and workshops in Greece and abroad and with his publications in the conference proceedings.
He has been a member of many Legislative Committees, he is a lawyer before the Supreme Court and the Council of State, a member of the Athens Bar Association, and from 2005 to 2008 he was a member of the Disciplinary Council of the Athens Bar Association, while he is an active member of many scientific associations and associations.
He has been honored with the award in memory Demetriou Babakou by the Association of Greek Penologists, as well as with a commemorative diploma from the "Alexander S. Onassis" Public Benefit Foundation and the Athens Bar Association.
He has been a member of the Editorial and Scientific Committee of Legal Tribune journal for many years, and has been a regular contributor to many scientific journals, such as Penal Chronicles, Greek Justice and Criminal Justice.
Author of 5 books - monographs, more than 70 scientific articles, commentaries on decisions and book presentations, while from time to time he has published in various newspapers and magazines critical texts and essays.
Kontopoulou Eleni
Curriculum Vitae
Eleni Kontopoulou is a postdoctoral researcher at Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Department of Sociology). She studied Law at the Democritus University of Thrace and obtained her Master’s Degree in Criminology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (School of Law). She holds a PhD in Criminology from the Department of Sociology of Panteion University. Her post- doctoral research, under the scientific supervision of the Professor Christina Zarafonitou, focuses on the empirical investigation of the relationship between the offending persistence of juveniles and the characteristics of their environment.
